While learning organic chemistry relies on constructive thinking rather than memorizing, there are just too many reactions and reagents you need to remember.
For example, we know that LiAlH4 is a reducing agent that converts aldehydes to primary alcohols, but what about ketones, esters, and amides – Does it work for all of them? Do they follow the same mechanism? How does it compare to DIBAL and NaBH4?
This reagent guide is written to minimize the struggle of searching for reagents. Most of those used in Organic 1 and 2 are summarized in an easy-to-navigate order.

This website is amazing. I haven’t purchased the subscription, but in my weeks of using this website, the free resources are 100% amazing. I’m sure that the quizzes and other things in the subscription are worth more than their price. I 100% recommend this website. Everything is so clear – every time I don’t understand something in my textbook, i search for it in ChemistrySteps, find it, and immediately understand it. 100% Amazing!!! Thank you to Dr. Gevorg for making this wonderful website.

What remarkable work! So informative and beautiful. Each sheet should be hanging in The Louvre!
Response from Chemistry Steps
Thank you so much, Douglas! Feedback like this keep me motivated, though I’m not sure The Louvre is ready for chemistry yet 🤣
I have 2 days until my exam i wish i had seen this site earlier. My message to the owner is please advertise this website more. I was searching for help everywhere like online on youtube and everywhere but this place only popped up to me very late. If i did not have 2 days until my exam i would have taken this premium. Hats off to the people who have created this website. If you are thinking to get the premium or not, DONT RISK YOUR TIME, INSTEAD SPEND THE $40 FOR YOUR GRADES!!

I am speechless at how beneficial this website is and how much it has helped me learn and gain a fundamental understanding on the whys and hows of Organic Chemistry. I really appreciate what you have done to promote learning the science of chemistry.
Response from Chemistry Steps
Thank you so much for your kind words, Fereyal. It means everything for me to know that we have been helpful to our students.
I had a concussion while taking organic chemistry 1 and I still pulled an A- in the class, despite falling asleep during lectures and briefly during a midterm and the final (due to the concussion 🙁 I had a cycling accident). Only reason why I didn’t straight up fail was because I spent all my study time just doing the practice problems from this site. The practice problems & answer explanations were lifesavers !! Instead of going to lectures, I also just read “Organic Chemistry as a Second Language” by David Klein whenever I didn’t understand a concept and needed a quick way to learn about it. I never learn much from sitting in lectures anyway. Spending $60 on this to get an A was so worth it!! Wish I had something like this for my physics classes. I’d honestly pay $200 for this course. saved me so much time
Response from Chemistry Steps
Justin,
Get well soon and thanks for the kind words with such a detailed description of your study route.
(Study Sheet Review) Pictures are clear, detailed, succinct, and have great use of color. The colors really help the brain to understand its synthesizing multiple concepts together to arrive at the information. Key concepts which act as the cornerstone to other concepts are highlighted, boxed, colored, or in some way easily identified. Super Helpful.
Response from Chemistry Steps
Glad to hear you found them helpful. Thanks for the feedback and good luck with the studies.
A semester later I am here again. Chemistry Steps helped me get a B in a course that I never hoped to pass. It was amazing feeling day by day that grasping the content in the lecture was not impossible anymore. I wish I found it earlier, but I am better off this time around.
Response from Chemistry Steps
Good to hear it was helpful, Amy. Good luck this semester, and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Awesome cheat sheets. Study from this and you’ll do good in everything up to college organic chemistry. Helpful for any fuel and material class too. Im a junior in college now and wish i had this freshman year.
This site is so helpful. The only thing that sucked was that I discovered it three days before my final. I wish I knew about it sooner.
I would just like to say that I am beyond thankful for this page!!! At my ordinary exam I failed (F) because I simply didn’t understand anything during the semester. My teacher and my instructor were both not-good at their jobs, which also affected my interest. Within 10 day, I had my re-exam and I passed with a C (super proud!!). Without even getting comments from my teacher after the exam, I could spot my mistakes and why my original answers not always were right. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
This is an amazing website for anyone taking organic chemistry. The topics are explained in an easy way accompanied with clear graphical illustrations and practice problems. I ended up using the resources given here more often than the textbook assigned for the class. Use the book as a reference for the chapters, do the practice problems and the quizzes here, go over the study guides and you should be fine!!!
Response from Chemistry Steps
Thanks, Kaitlyn!
Seriously the best place to be when taking Organic Chemistry. It costs a fraction of the textbook, but honestly is worth every penny and more than that. The explanations are simple and to the point with nice graphics and comparisons. So many practice problems and quizzes together with the study guides helped me a lot to get through. Can’t believe I couldn’t understand Newman projections a year ago until ending up here and now I am done with Organic 2.
Response from Chemistry Steps
Great to hear from you, Sarah. Thanks for sharing!

Outstanding website, the best so far, and I strongly recommended it to my students! You have done an excellent job in providing clear, step-by-step, color coded, easy to understand guides, and I believe your next step should be a textbook! Just excellent!
Response from Chemistry Steps
Thank you very much, Asmik!
I have been using Chemistry Steps for Organic 1 and 2 and struggled in the first semester before finding this site and I learned here more than in the zoom lectures and the book. The types of practice problems and the solutions are extremely relevant, and the addition of new puzzles is what I was looking for since my professors likes to give tons of synthesis. It’s great – highly recommended. The only regret is not knowing about it early enough in the O Chem 1 semester.
Response from Chemistry Steps
Great to hear it’s helping you, Gabi.
I have been a subscriber since the beginning of the semester and it helped me immensely. Having all the examples and quizzes with hints and access to study guides is so relevant when studying for a test. Definitely recommended!
Response from Chemistry Steps
Thanks for sharing your experience, Maria.
I want to buy, so my question is in the $43 bundle is it the OChem 1 & 2 and the Reagents? I want everything.
Just a heads up: there is a typo “11. Nucleophilic Substitution – SN1 an SN2”.
The page is so helpful. It is very much clear and concise that helps to grab all the key things with detailed information. Thank you so much for the website.
Response from Chemistry Steps

Going from Org I to Org II was such a rough turn. I did well in Org I but had almost no hope of passing the Org II taking in the summer semester. I learned so much in one week form these cheat sheets and I actually passed the class with ease. I only wish I would have bought these at the beginning of the semester and I could have done better.
Briana Paisley
I wanted to thank you so much. Unbelievable how much information is found in one study guide summary sheet and how much I did not need from my textbook.
Jeffery
This is great work. I can’t fathom spending this much time on something, after a peruse it genuinely looks very useful. I just can’t believe I haven’t heard of it sooner. It’s likely I will purchase a prime membership soon and I wholly think it’s going to be a difference maker in my degree. Thanks a lot for your work. More people need to know about this!
Deikon
I came across these accidentally and found my rescue in the battle with organic chemistry. They cover everything about the alkene, alkyne, aromatic and all those countless numbers of reactions. And what is amazing is that I am able to read and learn as these are not just cheat sheets where everything is crammed in one place. It is like reading a book with a much better focus getting straight to the point in an easy to follow structure. Additionally, after going over the topic, there is plenty of practice accessible on a click. Yes, the answers are paid but they are worth it. I jumped from a 72 on my second exam to a 96 on my last exam. That is if you are in doubt about whether to buy these fantastic study guides or not.
Sylvia Lawrence
These study guides are extremely helpful when it gets so hard to keep up with organic chemistry lectures. Great summaries to master and solidify the key concepts right before the test. I highly recommend them.
Greg
“Sir, I owe you my grade. Yes, I was impressed by these detailed study guides right when I downloaded them, but I am e-mailing you now that the brutal semester is over and I got an A in a class that I thought I’d never be able to handle.“
Alyssa Belcher
You cannot change the nature of the subject, but these study guides ease the battle with organic chemistry.
